Normally, when you connect a camera using the Usb connection, your Pc recognises the gismo and you can use it level away. I had no end of problems getting the Pc to do this and I view the driver was at fault.

1. Camera - You'll be great off buying a Dv (Digital Video) camera, they're best for digital editing, later on. Decent Dv cameras go for whatever between 0 and 00, and the tapes are nearby a piece. One camera that I have used personally is the Canon Gl2 MiniDv Digital Camcorder. I had nothing but good experiences with this camera. There are preset settings for the novice user, and at the same time it was very fine tuneable, for the experts out there. Make sure that your camera will shoot in progressive scan mode. 2. Shooting - You can shoot your video anywhere, and hopefully you will take benefit of that fact! When editing your video, you will be telling a story. So discrete locations would be excellent. If you can, storyboard your video out before you begin scouting locations or shooting. It makes thing 1,000,000 times easier, trust me. One other thing I would propose would be to make sure that you have adequate Lighting. Normal indoor Lighting is not picked up by the camera the same way your eye picks it up. I would propose picking up a book about the basics of video Lighting, if you can. But if that is not a possibility, remember one thing, more is better.
3. Editing - You're going to need to pull your video footage off of your camera onto your computer. Most Dv cameras come with a Usb cord which will allow you to do just that. You can use the rights software that comes with your computer to do that, or you can buy editing software which will do the same thing. Most Pcs that have Window Xp installed come with Windows Movie Maker. This is a great program for beginners, it allows you to pull footage off of your camera, and then edit said footage. But it doesn't come with very many editing features. So the more advanced editors might want to plunk down some cash and buy Adobe Premiere, which is a super flexible video editing program with a very steep learning curve. The advanced Mac users out there might want to check out Final Cut Pro.
Now that you have your edited footage, you'll want to output it onto tape or disc. The easiest thing to do is to burn it to Dvd, which most editing programs will have a highlight to do this. Canon Hv30 Vs Canon Hv40 - An Engineer Gives You the Real Inside Scoop and It's Not What You Think

From both an engineering point of view and from a consumer point of view, which camcorder should you ? And if you already have an Hv30, should you upgrade to the new Hv40? These are the questions most population are asking.
The short rejoinder is that you couldn't go too far wrong with whether one of these cameras, but you probably already knew that. What you want to know is that when you get down to the nitty-gritty, what's the real differences and what are the pros and cons of each?
Let's start with what's indubitably new in the Canon Hv40 specs.
The biggest new feature is that the Hv40 can capture directly in 24p mode which means it can capture 24 progressive frames per second.
The Hv40 keeps Canon's core imaging technologies and it adds a new option of beneficial features for image quality. The Hv40 uses Hdv tapes. It has a 2.96 megapixel Hd Cmos Image Sensor. It also has Canon's 10x Hd video lens.
Other features include Instant AutoFocus (Af) which provides very fast and accurate auto focus and the Focus help aids manual focusing. SuperRange optic Image Stabilization and 24Mbps Recording are also included and this is the top bit rat in Avchd.
The Digic Dv Ii processor has been optimized for Hd. The industrialized accessory shoe gives you wide range of dedicated accessories to be attached.
Ok, but what's the lowest line? Should I buy the Hv30 or the new Hv40 and if I already have the Hv30 should I upgrade to the Hv40.
If you have the Hv30 stay with it
In most situations I would not suggest that you upgrade. The only real new feature you will get is that you will be able to record directly in 24p mode, and if you indubitably needed to do this, I'm sure you have already learned how to jump through the hoops and achieve the end results with your Hv30 (of course, with at lot more effort).
If you are going to buy one camcorder or the other, go with the Hv40 if your budget will allow it.
If your budget is tight, wait until after the March (or April or later) announced release date for the Hv40 and you will be able to find some great deals on both new and used Hv30 camcorders.
The Hv30 is a great Hd video camera that you can't go wrong with.
One last point: If you don't indubitably need to buy a camcorder right now, wait and within a year there will be some new developments in camcorders (like the Red Scarlet) and competitors that will take camcorders to a whole new level. And as always, the prices will come down.

Running Microsoft's Windows Movie Maker in Windows 7 can be a daunting task, because it is not available on Microsoft's newest operating system by default, just like it has been available on Xp, and Vista in past. Note: You may have problems in installing Photo Story 3 on the final Win7 release. However, Microsoft has tweaked nearby to fix this issue.
